Oscar Performance took the lead and never looked back when running away with the Pilgrim Stakes (GIII).

Rushing out of the gate, Oscar Performance established an early lead while clocking the opening quarter mile in :23.55. Jockey Jose Ortiz was able to put the field to sleep from that position, giving his mount a breather after getting the half mile in :48.98.

Around the far turn, Oscar Performance began to kick away from the field, hitting the six furlongs in 1:12.63. As they turned into the stretch of the Pilgrim Stakes Oscar Performance exploded away from the field. By mid-stretch the son of Kitten’s Joy opened up a commanding three length lead, and only lengthen his advantage from there.

Oscar Performance soared under the wire in a final time of 1:42.88. With this win, Oscar Performance stamped his ticket to Santa Anita for a try in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

Trainer Brian Lynch was ecstatic with the colt's performance.

"When I saw the second-quarter come up 48-and-change for the half, I knew he found his stride and he's just comfortable going and he'd be hard to catch from there," Lynch Said. "I think it was a decent field behind him, so there's plenty to look forward to. I'd certainly say he's on the wagon headed that way [the Breeders' Cup]."
